13 Feet Forward (Exhibit open to public)
ABOUT THE ARTISTS
13 Feet Forward is a collective reunion art exhibition by 13 Feet Off The Ground at the B1 Gallery at The Beaumont Studios.
13 Feet Off The Ground is a collective of established women artists based in Vancouver. The group came together in 2017 to travel to Sicily for a residency programme in the ancient village of Graniti, which became home to these artists for one month. The group spans diverse artistic subjects, with styles – from figurative to realist to abstract – which they expressed in the eleven individual murals, one installation, and one collaborative mural created among the mountains and stone walls of Graniti.
This rewarding and fulfilling experience created a lifelong bond between the 13FOTG artists. While some members have moved on from the collective, the core group, on occasion, joins forces for mural projects and group exhibitions, while continuing with their individual art practices.
13FOTG has participated in a wide range of events and exhibitions, including group shows at Port Moody Arts Centre and Off the Rails Brewery, and artists’ talks at venues such as Lipont Gallery and Ferry Building. Together, they attended Puertas, a group painting residency in San Juan del Cabo, and created various murals within BC, from West Vancouver to Penticton.
ABOUT THE EXHIBITION
13 Feet Forward is a collective reunion art exhibition by 13 Feet Off The Ground at the B1 Gallery at The Beaumont Studios.
13 Feet Off The Ground is a collective of established women artists based in Vancouver. The group came together in 2017 for a mural residency programme in the ancient Sicilian village of Graniti. For seven years, the bond created by this rewarding experience has nourished periodic shared projects.
Now, ten members of 13FOTG are reuniting for a show that celebrates their connection and shares where life has taken the members since their formative experience in Sicily. 13FOTG reflects the breadth and diversity of these artists’ work – spanning a range of media, and painting styles – from figurative to realist to abstract. Bringing together existing and new works, this show illuminates these artists’ processes – both in their solo work and in a collective.
