SUMMARY:Beginner's Sewing Workshop - Upcycle a Tote Bag
DESCRIPTION:Come get formally (re)acquainted with your sewing machine at this completely beginner-friendly upcycling workshop. This will be a easy-going\, small-size (<10 students) learning environment perfect for those who have let their sewing machine collect dust for a little too long and need a little push get back behind the wheel as well as novice sewers who have little to no sewing experience! November 22nd at the Beaumont Gallery from 2-4pm. \nTaught by Bronte Che\, founder of Che the label. She has been upcycling since childhood and uses these techniques in her clothing label which uses 100% secondhand and deastock materials.  \nOver the course of this 2-hour lesson you will learn how to thread and prep your sewing machine\, assemble and use a sewing pattern for Che\, the label's signature Tie-tote bag\, as well as the basic sewing and upcycling techniques necessary to make the bag. Bags are fit with a keychain holder and inside pocket. \nAll sewing materials (sewing pattern\, fabric\, ties\, patches) will be 2nd-hand and provided for you! If you have patches\, ties or fabric that you would like to use\, you are welcome to bring them too! Just make sure you bring your sewing machine\, needles and sewing scissors. A universal sewing needle is recommended\, if you don't have this\, dm me on Instagram (@che.thelabel) and we can sort it out! \nClass starts at 2pm sharp so it is recommended to arrive 10 minutes early to get settled in.

DESCRIPTION:Ready for The Playdate volume 2 – cozy edition? Last summer\, Claire\, Kiel and friends hosted a casual cafe experience where grown ups got to have a cafe experience (think treats\, pourover specialty coffee from local roasters and other fun non cafe drinks) while the kiddos had space to run around and play.  \nThey are back with some seasonal treats\, holiday crafts for kiddos and at the same great community space\, the Beaumont Studios!  \nClaire and Kiel are a couple who love coffee\, food and connection. After becoming parents\, they’ve continued doing what they love best: cafe and pop up hopping with their kiddo. This event is a love letter to parents and caregivers who are looking for a space to have a casual cafe experience with their kiddos in tow. \nClaire (of @honeysuckle.collective) will be serving up pourover coffee by local roasters and Kiel will be serving up sweet seasonal treats. This is a by donation drop in event – come when you want\, leave when nap time calls. There will be books and toys for the kiddos to play with. Iyengar\, explaining yoga’s physiological benefits like achieving a “Blissful Brain.” \nFather Joe is a remarkable figure who embodies a unique blend of Catholic priesthood\, social work\, and yogic philosophy. He is the esteemed founder of the Kripa Foundation\, one of the largest NGOs and non-profit organizations in India\, which is dedicated to the care and rehabilitation of individuals affected with substance abuse and HIV/AIDS. \nBorn in Maharashtra\, India\, Father Joe began learning yoga at the young age of eleven. While pursuing his priestly vocation\, he earned Master’s degrees in Philosophy and Psychology from the University of Mumbai and received certification in counseling from the Hazelden Institute in the USA. \nA pivotal moment came in 1968 when he met his renowned yoga guru B.K.S. Iyengar\, and became his student\, deeply immersing himself in Iyengar Yoga. In 1971\, he started working with Mother Teresa\, whose compassion and dedication profoundly influenced his mission to serve the marginalized population of people with substance use disorders in India. \nIn 1981\, Father Joe founded the Kripa Foundation\, “Kripa\,” derived from the Sanskrit word for “grace\,” reflects the foundation’s core philosophy of spiritual development for healing addictions. DESCRIPTION:Hat-Making: Design & Create Your Own Felt Hat 2-class workshop \nIn this small group class\, everyone is involved and moving. It isn’t a lecture – it’s a great opportunity to spend time with a special friend or family member\, to satisfy a deep curiosity or release your inner creativity! \nIn session one\, you will receive a customized measurement from Marcia to determine your perfect hat size\, choose your hat block from the assortment of antique (and not so antique) options and make the all important decision: the colour of felt you would like to use for your special hat. \nThen it’s time to put on the apron! During this hands-on segment\, you will learn how to block your hat and create the final shape of your masterpiece. There will be a live demonstration from Marcia and she will then work with you to steam\, stretch and form your felt onto your chosen block. \nSession two begins with removing your dry felt from the block. This will be the first time you get to try on your creation! Now it’s time to complete your hat with the inner headband\, strengthen the edge of the brim\, and add the hat band and trims that will make your hat truly unique. \nSome hand sewing experience is helpful but not necessary. \nBring your enthusiasm and any special buttons or trims you may want to use. All other necessary supplies are provided! \nThis introductory 2-session workshop will give you enough base knowledge to create your own hats at home. \nIf this session doesn’t suit you – or you would like to buy this as a gift – please contact Marcia at lotusmillinery@gmail.com \n  \nThe workshop sessions will take place in Marcia’s Studio upstairs at The Beaumont.
